Dr. Charles Rayevsky, well-known American-Jewish Socialist who was at one time an editor of the Jewish Daily Forward, died on Monday from cancer at the age of 64. He leaves a widow and a daughter. During the past twenty-four years, he and his family had lived in Liberty, N. Y., in the Catskill Mts., where Dr. Rayevsky was a practicing physician, specializing in lung diseases and being for a time head of the Arbeiter Ring Tubercular Sanatorium near Liberty.
Dr. Rayevsky, who was born in Krementschug, Russia, came to America at the age of 17. He had been a member of the Russian-Jewish revolutionary group, “Am Olam,” which decided to emigrate to this country. In America Dr. Rayevsky at first worked in factories and helped organize the Jewish labor movement.
Dr. Rayevsky was a member of the American Academy of Medicine and president of the Medical Society of Sullivan County.
