Charles Schusterman, a Jewish philanthropist who spearheaded a U.S. synagogue renewal effort, died at the age of 65. In addition to what is known as the STAR effort, Schusterman created a foundation in 1987 that gave generously to Jewish causes, especially those promoting Jewish education and culture.
