Two Jewish groups joined yesterday with Catholic, Protestant and Episcopal spokesmen to denounce the “reluctance” of Chicago’s three network television stations to provide adequate time for religious programs.
The charges, which included statements from the Chicago Board of Rabbis and the B’nai B’rith Women, were made at a Federal Communications hearing. The criticisms were aimed at WBBM, owned by CBS, WNBQ, owned by NBC, and WBKB, owned by ABC. The New York-controlled stations were charged with being not only indifferent to religious programs but also with providing the smallest and least adequate facilities for the worst possible time.
