A central square in Tel Aviv and a street were named today in memory of three Jewish intellectuals who were among the Jewish artists, writers and poets killed in Russia 10 years ago, during the Stalin purges.

The square was named for Shlomo Mikhoels, while the street was named for Haim Lensky and Elisha Rudin. Joshua Bertonoff, a leading Israeli artist, unveiled a plaque during the ceremonies. Mayor Mordechai Namir and representatives of the Israeli Writers Association recalled the slain writers and artists and their moral legacy to the Jewish people. Later a mass meeting was held at the Mann Auditorium in memory of the Jewish intellectuals.
