United States Army headquarters today announced that German provincial authorities in Bavaria have been asked by Gen. Lucius D. Clay, U.S. military governor of Germany to examine the evidence against Ilse Koch, notorious German war criminal, with a view toward prosecuting her in the German courts.
The announcement also revealed that Gen, Clay had promised the German authorities that they would “be assisted in every my possible,” in their efforts to prose-cute Frau Koch, who has been charged with ordering lampshades made from the skins of murdered concentration camp inmates. The statement also said that the Koch woman could not be tried again by the Army. This development was interpreted by observers here to mean that Gen, Clay was applying pressure on the German authorities to try her.
