The Cleveland Jewish Welfare Fund appeal officially opened its 1967 campaign last night at a dinner meeting at which pledges totaling $4,521,979 were announced. Goal of the campaign is a record high of $6,476,000. The previous record was set in 1966 when $6,268,652 was raised.
Ambassador Avraham Harman of Israel was the keynote speaker at the opening dinner meeting attended by 450 campaign workers. He reviewed current developments affecting the Jewish people and the State of Israel and described the problems confronting both. Julius Paris, general chairman of the campaign, presided at the dinner. Receiving the division reports were the co-chairmen, Max M. Axelrod and M. Edward Weiner. David N. Myers is president of the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland which sponsors the annual campaign. Henry L. Zucker, its executive vice-president, is campaign director with Joseph S. Winston, senior associate campaign director. The campaign will conclude with a dinner meeting on May 18.
