More than 600 bales of clothing, including 500 from the United States and 122 from Palestine, have already reached Soviet territory for distribution among Jewish and non-Jewish refugees from Poland stranded in Russia, it was announced by Polish diplomatic circles here today. In addition, many individual parcels have arrived from Palestine.
The bales, all of which arrived in good condition, have been opened by representatives of the Polish embassy and their contents distributed among the refugees under instructions from the embassy that no distinction be made among the applicants. About 400 of the bales came from Polish relief organizations in America and 104 bales came from the Jewish Labor Committee of New York. The 122 bales from Palestine were sent by the Federation of Polish Jews there. A transport of medicaments sent by the Joint Distribution Committee is expected to reach Soviet territory in the next few days.
The Soviet authorities are facilitating distribution of the supplies. Some of the clothing which arrived was carried by Soviet planes to distant places while other shipments were transported within the country by train at reduced freight rates. Free transportation was provided by the Soviet authorities for the Shipment of the bales from the United States to the Soviet port of Vladivostok.
