Colonel Mayer, one of the most prominent Jews in Algeria, died here today at the age of 86. He was a commander of the Legion of Honor and was responsible for the establishment of an orphanage for Jews during the war. Three of his sons were killed during the World War and two others decorated with the Legion of Honor.
