The Columbia Grammar School last Friday gave a benefit for the Herald Tribune Fresh Air Fund. The boys, who had done all the decorating themselves had transformed the interior of the school to resemble a boat.
It was done so cleverly that the illusion was complete and the guests felt themselves to be on board a gay and amusing ship. Not only was there a good horizon, ship-railings, portholes, smoking rooms and what not, but one could also enjoy all the diversions of an up-to-date liner: shuffle board, tea and dinner dancing, and splendid side-shows in the gymnasium, staged and produced by the boys.
Mrs. Fitzpatrick, criminologist, entertained with palmistry readings, while the cartoonist, Haile Hendrix, amused everyone with his quick and clever drawings.
Columbia Grammar School, formerly under the leadership of the late Dr. George Alexander Kohut, son of Mrs. Rebekkah Kohut, is now guided by headmaster Frederick Arlington Allen.
