Condoleezza Rice tapped a U.S. general to coordinate security between Israel and the Palestinians. Lt. Gen. William Ward will play a role, previously played by the CIA, that is seen as key to restarting peace talks. “Gen. Ward will assist the Palestinian Authority to consolidate and expand their recent efforts on security, and encourage resumption of Israeli-Palestinian security coordination,” Rice, the U.S. secretary of state, said Monday at the close of a two-day visit to Jerusalem and Ramallah.
