Protesting against persecutions of Jews in Poland, more than 500 delegates to the Greater New York conference of the Federation of Polish Jews in American meeting in the Hotel Pennsylvania, here to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the organization, called upon the Polish Government to rescind anti-Semitic discriminations against Jews and restore the freedom which was granted racial and religious minorities by the Polish Constitution.
Resolutions extending its congratulations to the “democratic forces of progress which are uniting in Poland,” commending President Roosevelt for his plan to aid foreign refugees and asking world Jewry to unite in defense of democracy were adopted. Messages were received from Jewish organizations in Poland.
Benjamin Winter, president of the Federation, urged local organizations to aid Jewish loan cooperatives in Poland, stating that the “Federation stands ready to match dollar for dollar any such contribution made by Polish Jewish groups here.” Other speakers included Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Judge Nathan Perlman, representing Mayor LaGuardia, Zelig Tygel, executive director of the Federation, and Abraham I. Kandel, vice-president.
