Conference of Jewish Community Leaders to Map Plans for 1948 Fund Raising

An extraordinary conference of the 30 largest Jewish communities in the United States and Canada to map out joint plans for com##nal programs and fund raising in 1948 has been called by the Council of Jewish ##derations and Welfare Funds for November 8 and 9 in Pittsburgh, Stanley C. Myers, ##uncil president, announced today, The conferonce will deal with overseas, nationla and lccal needs, involving both capital and operating funds.Participating in the conference will be the presidents or other designated ##y leaders of central agencies in these communities – Federations, welfare funds and ##nmity councils – their executive directors, the community representatives on the ##ited Jewish Appeal’s executive and administrative committees, invited representatives of the largest national and overseas agencies and the members of the Council’s ward of Directors. The 1947 combined goals of the cities which have been invited ##talled well over $150,000,000, not including substantial sums received from Commnity Chests and capital funds.“The purpose of the meeting will be to take stock and to develop statesnlike planning for the broad compass of Jewish obligations,” Mr. Myers stated. “The ##st intensive spring campaigns in history are now winding up and fall campaigns are ##lly underway. Communities already are asking: What’s ahead in 1948? What will be ##r obligations for overseas needs? What will our local agencies require? What will ##tional services require# What capital funds are needed# How much of this can and ##uld be net in 1948# The conference will seek to provide some clarity and answers those questions. It will attempt to help each community, and thus American Jewry, desermine and meet more effectively the great obligations all of us face in the ## ahead.”
