Members of the Pioneer Women’s Organization were called upon yesterday to intensify their civilian defense and war effort activities, in a resolution adopted at the closing session of the five-day convention of the group here.
Other resolutions hailed President Roosevelt’s recent statement on Palestine, sent to the second annual dinner of the American Palestine Committee on May 25; called upon the United Nations to facilitate increased immigration to Palestine “and thus help solve the labor shortage in the war industries;” and voted a $150,000 quota for the Moazoth Hapoaloth, the Palestine Working Women’s Council, which is the sister organization of the Pioneer Women.
David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the executive of the Jewish Agency, told the delegates at the closing session that victory for the democracies was the only hope for Jewish freedom. He called upon the Jews of America for greater action in behalf of Palestine and Zionism.
The Pioneer Women also voted to raise $50,000 towards construction of the Jewish National Fund’s Brandeis Colony in Palestine; pledged that it would plant 5,000 trees in Palestine yearly and decided to contribute $10,000 to the Jewish Teachers College Building Fund in New York.
