Speaker of the House, Nicholas Longworth, has refused to sanction the proposal of Representative Sol Bloom Democrat, of New York, that a Congressional committee investigate Henry ford’s charges against the Jews. Other influential leaders in Congress concur according to the Washington correspondent of “The American Hebrew” who in the current issue of that weekly declares:

“Because they are afraid that the House of Representatives will become a forum for the airing of religious hatreds, prejudices and animosities Republican leaders of the lower Congressional body have turned thumbs down on the proposal of Representative Sol Bloom, a Democrat, of New York, to determine the truth of Henry Ford’s allegation that ‘the international Jew is in direct control of all financial centers of Government, including the United States Federal Reserve System.’

“It is not, as some may think, that the leaders of the House are afraid of Henry Ford, his millions or his supposed influence, or that they are in sympathy with his assaults on the Jewish people, but it is as stated above; any Congressional inquiry into Ford’s allegations will immediately cause a nation-wide revival, in their opinion, of religious intolerance.

“As a matter of fact in the nationwide personnel directory of the Federal Reserve System, including the Washington Federal Reserve Board and the twelve Federal Reserve Banks throughout the country, there are but two persons in the list of officers and directors who are known to be Jews, Leon C. Simon of New Orleans, president of Kohn, Weil and Simon, Inc., is a class B director of the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank and Clarence E. Linz of Dallas, banker and businessman and one of the best known financiers in Texas, is deputy chairman and a class C. director of the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank. Neither in Washington, among the official personnel of the Federal Reserve Board, or among the officials and directors of the Boston. New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Richmond, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Kansas City or San Francisco banks are there Jews. Personnel of the branch Federal Reserve Banks show a surprising absence of Jewish bankers. The official records, there fore, show that Mr. Ford’s charge of Jewish control of the Federal Reserve System if true, must be accomplished through ‘dummies’ in the persons of some of the most prominent Protestant and Catholic businessmen, lawyers and bankers in every state of the Union.”
