The Connecticut Commission on Civil Rights today ordered Mrs. Olive Braden, a real estate broker, to “cease and desist” a practice of discrimination against Jewish home buyers.
Mrs. Braden was disclosed to have prepared a memorandum for her staff which provided meticulous details on how to spot a Jewish client and means of avoiding any service to such prospective home buyers.
The commission acted after Mrs. Braden signed a consent decree during the second of two hearings into the charges. Mrs. Braden admitted preparing the memorandum, saying she did so under the stress of criticism of other Greenwich Realtors after her agency made a sale to a Jewish client. She denied distribution of the memorandum to her sales staff.
