The newly-created Association of Jewish librarians closed its first annual convention here last night by adopting a formal statement of purposes calling for the promotion and improvement of library services and professional standards in all Jewish libraries. The association voted to serve as a center for the dissemination of Jewish library service and guidance; to encourage people to enter the Jewish library field; to promote the formation of more Jewish libraries; and to promote the publication of literature to assist Jewish libraries and librarians.
Herbert C. Zafren, of Chicago, who has been provisional president, was elected president. The two former groups which consolidated to form the new organization will be headed, respectively, by Jacob Dienstag, of New York, as president of the Research and Special Library Division; and Mrs. Mae Weine, of Camden, N. J., as president of the Synagogue, Center and School Libraries Division.
