Council Women to Observe National Music Week, May 4

An appeal has been addressed to the members of the National Council of Jewish Women to promote the observance of National Music Week, May 4th to 10th, by Mrs. Irvin Bettman of St. Louis, National Chairman of the Department of Education of the National Council of Jewish Women. This national movement seeks to encourage men and women to participate in the advantages of music through the various sources and agencies and also to foster the continued interest of young people in music after their graduation from school.

Mrs. Bettman has also addressed an appeal to the members of the National Council of Jewish Women to devote special attention to the question of adult education. Supplementing the study of this question, efforts will be made to obtain, through legislative means in various cities and communities, the facilities required for meeting the educational needs of adults.

In her statement to the Council Sections, Mrs. Bettman has recounted the achievements of the Council Sections in establishing Scholarship Funds. The need for extending this activity into every community in the United States, is stressed by Mrs. Bettman, because of the tremendous benefit it has brought to young men and young women in various cities, in providing them with opportunities for preparing for various careers, and in continuing their education.

The members of the Council Department of Education who are cooperating with Mrs. Bettman in furthering these plans are: Mrs. Moses N. Hirschfield of Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Leon Jonas of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. J. H. Kulakofsky of Omaha, Nebr., Mrs. Lyman E. Lehrburger of Brookline, Mass., Mrs. Hugo Moltasch Neely of Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. Lewis of Stamford, Conn., Mrs. Frank H. Streng of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Paul Treuman of St. Louis, Mo., and Mrs. Henry Wolff of Terre Haute, Ind.
