D.J. Kaufman, Washington Jewish philanthropist and retired merchant, died early today at the age of 77. He was a former board member of the Washington Hebrew Congregation, served on several presidential inaugural committees and contributed privately to the support of 29 charities, chosen regardless of creed. His business is now being carried on by his son, Joseph D. Kaufman.
