The action of M. M. Ussishkin, director of the Jewish National Fund, in interrupting the convocation address of Dr. Judah L. Magnes at the opening of the Hebrew University, is criticized today by the labor daily, “Davar,” which charges Mr. Ussishkin with having created the impression that the Jews are opposed to peace with the Arabs.

While the desirability of Dr. Magnes’s attitude may be questioned, nevertheless his speech, says “Davar,” contained nothing which justified Ussishkin’s action. “The University is a scientific, non-political institution and one could not expect the head of the University to open the new semester without mentioning general conditions in the country. In fact it was the duty of the Chancellor of the University to proclaim that the University is seeking peace and friendly relations with the Arab population.”
