David Ignatoff, Noted Jewish Author, Dies in New York

Funeral services for David Ignatoff, well-known Yiddish novelist who died at his home here last Thursday, were held today. Arrangements for the funeral were made by the World Congress for Jewish Culture, Jewish PEN Club, Jewish Writers Union and other cultural organizations. He was buried at the Mount Carmel cemetery of the Workmen’s Circle, Jewish fraternal order.

Born in 1885 in Brusilov, in the Ukraine, Mr. Ignatoff came to the United States at the age of 21 and soon became one of the most prominent Jewish authors. He wrote numerous novels, short stories and plays and was also the editor of “Shriften,” literary quarterly around which all modern Jewish writers in the United States were centered. He was a member of the staff of HIAS for the last 40 years.
