A delegation of Indian Jewish leaders met over the weekend with Prime Minister Indira Ghandi and reported to her on various Jewish enterprises. The delegation was comprised of Samuel Koder, president of the South Indian Jewish Association, H. Cynowitz, president of the Central Jewish Board of Bombay, Isaac Atalagewaker of Bombay and E. Jhirad of New Delhi. The four Jewish leaders will represent Indian Jewry at the Plenary session of the World Jewish Congress in Brussels at the end of this month.
Mr. Koder told the Prime Minister about plans for a major celebration in 1968 for the 400th anniversary of the building of the synagogue in Cochin. He said the Prime Minister had pledged here “whole-hearted support” for the observance. Other delegation members told the Prime Minister about the activities of the WJC and the plans of the plenary session. They said books by Indian Jewish authors would be exhibited at the Brussels gathering.
