The Detroit Jewish Community Council has asked its affiliated organizations to back agricultural workers in their attempt to open collective bargaining sessions with California table grape growers, the Detroit Jewish News reported. The action endorses the activities of the United Farm Workers Organizing Committee (UFWOC) headed by Cesar Chavez. The Council has urged its member organizations to boycott California grapes and voice support to their Congressman of a plan to extend to agricultural workers the National Labor Relations Act.
