A point system for rating prospective buyers of homes in the swank Detroit suburb of Grosse Point, which rated Jews and members of other minority groups far below native-born white non-Jews, has been dropped after a lengthy probe by Michigan state officials, it was disclosed today.
The fight against the point system was led by Lawrence Gubow, director of the Michigan Corporation and Securities Commission, and Paul L. Adams, Michigan Attorney General. A Grosse Point real estate brokerage association was threatened by possible revocation of state licenses if the system was continued.
Mr. Adams announced that the Grosse Point Brokers Association was moving to comply with requirements set up by his office and that of Mr. Gubow and that “the matter is now closed.”
