Difficulties in adaptation of refugees to American life were analyzed by Margaret T.Edelheim, former managing editor of the C.V.-Zeitung, defunct Berlin Jewish newspaper, addressing a meeting of German Jewish refugees at the Central Synagogue. She pointed out that America was a “young nation,” while both Germans and Jews were “old people,” and that the United States not not a nationalistic state like European countries.
