In connection with the attacks of the Doar Hayom and the “Palestine Weekly” upon Dr. Arthur Ruppin, member of the Zionist Executive, after his return from America, documents have been published relating to the matter. These documents show that Dr. Rupping desired to resign as early as 1920, but was prevented from giving up his post by requests from Dr. Weizmann and other members of the Executive. Finally at the meeting of the Palestine Zionist Executive on June 4th, Dr. Ruppin declared that he would agree to remain in the Executive as “Minister without portfolio” and that he would participate in the meetings, but that he would do no office work. In a letter dated June 12th, 1923, Dr. Weizmann informed Dr. Ruppin that it was the opinion of Mr. Louis Marshall that his visit with Dr. Weizmann to America was absolutely necessary for the achievement of the work on behalf of the Investment Bank; and that Mr. Marshall insisted on Dr. Ruppin’s presence.
In connection with the articles of the Doar Hayom against Dr. Ruppin, the latter asked permission to publish all the documents concerned, but Mr. Joseph Cowen declared that this would be inconvenient for political reasons, and that the Executive would publish a statement declaring that the Executive was “au courant” of the whole matter and had full confidence in Dr. Ruppin. Mr. Naiditch stated that Mr. Ben Avi had told him that the articles attacking Dr. Ruppin had appeared after he, Ben-Avi, had left Palestine and that he would endeavor to repair the wrong done by the attack. Dr. Weizmann added that he had spoken to Mr. Ben Avi on the matter and that he had promised to publish a denial of the articles.
