Dolphins off Israel’s shore are underfed due to excessive fishing, researchers said. According to a study published Tuesday, one in three bottle-nosed dolphins living in the Mediterranean Sea near Israel is too thin. The main cause cited by the Haifa University study, apparently is a lack of fish, but another reason could be illness among the dolphin population. The Associated Press noted that Israeli fishermen have reported a drop in Mediterranean catches in recent years, which could point to a broader problem in the sea’s ecosystem.
