Sub-Secretary for Dominions P.V. Emrys-Evans denied in Commons today that illegal subterfuges were being used in Palestine to enable the transfer of more Arab-owned land than is permitted by present land regulations. Replying to a query by F.W. Astor, Conservative, Mr. Emrys-Evans pointed out that land transfers are under judicial supervision and are decreasing annually. He said that they would eventually cease completely. He promised, however, to consult Palestine High Commissioner Sir Harold MacMichael as to whether he felt the situation was satisfactory.

During his question, Mr. Astor also stressed the urgency of constructing dehydration facilities in Palestine to save the citrus growers from bankruptcy. The sub-secretary replied that the government’s Dehydration Mission has recently returned from Palestine and is preparing a report which will provide a basis for action.
