“American institutions of higher learning must stand as solid bulwarks against the sweep of un-American, un-democratic movements such as have engulfed Germany, Italy and Russia,” Dr. James Rowland Angell, president of Yale University, declared on a visit to Seattle.

“Freedom of thought and of teaching has been completely obliterated in Germany under the Nazi regime,” Dr. Angell said.
