Dr. Ferdinand Sonneborn, a pioneer in petroleum chemistry and a founder and president of L. Sonneborn Sons, oil refining and chemical manufacturing company, died here yesterday at the age of 79.
Dr. Sonneborn was one of the pioneer Zionists of this country and helped found the American Friends of the Haifa Technician. He was active in the United Jewish Appeal, the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, and other Jewish groups. Statements of condolence were issued by the Israel bond organization.
