Dr. Henry Selver, J.D.C. Aide, Dies in Paris; Trained Social Workers

Dr. Henry Selver, social welfare leader, educator and one of the top aides of the Joint Distribution Committee in France, died in Paris yesterday. He was 56. Dr. Selver came to this country in 1938 from Germany.

Dr. Selver, who began his association with the JDC in 1949, was responsible for the selection and training of JDC personnel in Paris, which is the site of the European headquarters of the agency. He was the first director of the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work in Paris which trained social workers for Europe and North Africa in American social work techniques. Earlier, Dr. Selver held a variety of social work positions in the United States, including director of the children’s home of the Jewish Child Welfare Association of Essex County, N.J.
