Dr. Zoltan Klar, a prominent Jewish physician and journalist, died here yesterday at the age of 72. He was editor of Az Ember, a Hungarian-language weekly published here. Born in Hungary, Dr. Klar was sent by the Nazis to the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he was a camp physician during the Second World War. After the war he returned to Budapest where he founded an organization to aid Jewish concentration camp victims. He was also an ardent foe of the Soviet occupation of Hungary.
Dr. Klar emigrated to Paris in 1949, and came to the United States in 1952. Two years later he became editor of Az Ember. He figured in a number of libel cases arising from his charges against several Hungarian emigres whom he accused of having Nazi backgrounds. He won a $25, 000 counter-claim against the editor of a rival weekly whom he accused of having pointed out Jews to be sent to concentration camps.
