Dr. Selman Waksman, the American Jewish scientist and Nobel Prize winner, director-emeritus of the Rutgers University Institute of Microbiology, was recovering at a hospital here today from an emergency appendectomy, performed yesterday. He was taken off a plane here while on his way to Argentina.
