Dr. Shelley R. Saphire, one of the founders of Yeshiva College, now Yeshiva University, died here Friday at the age of 79. Dr. Saphire, a biologist, served as the first dean of Yeshiva College, the first such institution established under Jewish auspices in the United States. He was also a professor and head of the biology department until 1960 when he was named professor emeritus.
