An East Berlin Communist publishing house will bring out the German edition of “The Scourge of the Swastika,” a short history of Nazi atrocities written by Lord Russell, former Assistant Judge Advocate of the British Armed Forces, it was learned today.
Lord Russell, who was forced to resign from that post last August when he refused to suppress the book, had sought a West German publisher for the book, but none was found prepared to place his imprint on the work. The author then accepted a bid from the East Berlin, “Volk and Welt” firm because he wanted the book made available to German readers.
Lord Russell was senior legal advisor to the British Commander-in-Chief on the Nazi war crimes trials and served in Germany from 1946 to 1951 as Deputy Judge Advocate, British Army of the Rhine.
