Edgar Kaufmann, Civic Leader and Philanthropist, Dies at 69

Edgar Jonas Kaufmann, president of the Kaufmann Department Store here and noted philanthropist interested in many Jewish, general cultural and local civic causes, died this week-end at Palm Springs, California, aged 69.

Among the causes with which Mr. Kaufmann had been associated were the United Jewish Fund here, Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Montefiore Hospital, United War Fund and Y.M. and Y.W.H.A. He was president of the Civic Light Opera Association here and had contributed $1,000,000 toward construction of a new civic redevelopment plan here.
