Members of the parliaments of the six nations composing the European Economic Community announced today the formation of the Europe-Near East Association which will seek association of Israel with the Common Market. The new organization, which will have headquarters in Luxembourg, will also seek closer links with other countries of the area and will be ready to support their efforts to establish closer ties with the EEC on condition that they will be prepared to cooperate with Israel inside the framework of the Community.
Israel, which now has limited agreements with the European Common Market — which represents its largest export market — has been seeking associate membership in the European Economic Community. The ruling bodies of the EEC have deferred action on the Israeli application.
