The Israeli-Egyptian Mixed Armistice Commission expressed its concern today over the problem of Arab infiltration from the Egyptian-held Gaza strip into Israel territory, after declaring Egypt responsible for the violation of the demarcation lines by civilians.
Pointing out that the armistice agreement places responsibility for halting such infiltration on the governments from whose territory the infiltrees come, the MAC condemned Egypt for two instances of civilians illegally crossing the line during July.
The UN chairman’s abstention on the grounds of insufficient evidence forced the dropping of three other such cases and one Egyptian complaint against Israel. Twenty-three other complaints filed by both parties were dropped without any discussion.
