Egypt’s ambassador to the United States says that President Bush’s personal commitment to the “road map” toward Israeli-Palestinian peace is necessary for the plan to succeed. Noting that the conflict has moved from the governmental level to the popular level, Nabil Fahmy said Thursday that Egypt would support the road map because it benefits the Egyptian people, and that a commitment from Israel also is necessary for progress.
