Egypt’s national security adviser said the Bush’s administration “inaction” on the Middle East could bolster extremists in moderate Arab countries. Osama Baz, in Washington for meetings with administration officials, told The New York Times that U.S. policy in the region also was weakening moderates in Israel and could hurt the United States’ regional influence.
