Ehud Olmert appointed a former spy chief to lead efforts to retrieve three Israeli soldiers held in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. The Prime Minister’s Office announced Monday that Ofer Dekel, a former Shin Bet deputy chief, would be in charge of efforts to secure the safe return of Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, who have been held by Hezbollah since a July 12 border raid, and Gilad Shalit, who was abducted to Gaza by Hamas-led gunmen June 25.
