Eichmann Case Attracts Worldwide Attention; Given Wide Coverage in U.S.

Prepared for elaborate coverage of the proceedings of the Eichmann trial, which starts on Tuesday in Jerusalem, all major American television and radio stations devoted much of their time today to relating the background of the Eichmann trial as well as to debates on the purposes and legality of the trial. At the same time, the entire American press today carried in Sunday editions news and comments from Jerusalem on the last-minute preparations for the trial and the feeling prevailing in Israel with regard to the proceedings.

Day-to-day coverage of the trial will be given from the Jerusalem courtroom on television and over the radio in this country through video-tape and radio-tape recordings, made in the courtroom and rushed to New York by special plane arrangements. Interested in the proceedings of the trial are not only millions of average Americans, but also many members of the bar associations throughout the country who consider the Eichmann case as a precedent in international jurisprudence.

Cables from London, Paris and other world capitals received by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency here from its correspondents today, reported that the press in those countries devoted considerable attention to the Eichmann case in special articles written by prominent writers sent to Israel to attend the trial.

In France, the press featured the Eichmann case today as the major news of the day, giving extensive accounts from Jerusalem of the last-minute preparations to the trial as well as dramatic descriptions of the Nazi atrocities against Jews. Articles on the Eichmann case were featured today in the Sunday newspapers in London. The British Broadcasting Corporation announced that it will cover the trial from Jerusalem on television and over the radio.
