Five anti-Nazi emigres, on trial for robbery in connection with the Pariser Tageblatt’s alleged sale to Nazi interests last year, have admitted in Correctional Court they were guilty of taking the paper’s circulation lists and editorial matter.
The emigres explained their action was prompted by a desire to save the names of German refugees from falling into the hands of Nazis in view of the charges made against Vladimir Poliakoff, publisher of the Tageblatt. (Poliakoff subsequently was cleared of the charges by a committee of notables.)
Henri Torres, well known attorney, represented the defendants in the trial, which ended Saturday. A verdict is expected shortly. A libel action, instituted by Poliakoff against former members of the Tageblatt staff, now publishing the Pariser Tageszeitung, is scheduled for trial soon.
