The month of March was today proclaimed ” German Jewry’s Month” and will be devoted to a drive both in London and in the provinces for raising funds to help German Jewry.
A report made public today by the allocation committee on the second drive for funds for German Jewry discloses that the Jews of England contributed from March 1 to December 31, 1934, a sum of approximately $900,000, which averages $100,000 a month. It is expected that a similar average will be contributed by British Jewry during the present campaign, which starts on March 10.
An appeal to the Jewish population of Great Britain to contribute to these funds will be issued on March 8 through the Anglo-Jewish press and will be signed by the most prominent leaders of British Jewry. This will be the third annual drive conducted by British Jewry for the Jews of Germany.
Leonard Montefiore, joint chairman of the drive, is leaving this week for a tour of Scotland, in order to make personal contact with the key men of various provincial centers in anticipation of the public launching of the drive on March 10. Neville Laski, president of the Board of Jewish Deputies, has undertaken to help the drive in London, while Otto Schiff will visit Liverpool to organize the drive there.
