The flood of threatening leters received by George H. Earle, III, American Minister to Austria, since his statement of warning against the adoption of anti-Semitic policies by this country, continued over the weekend with more than a hundred being received at the embassy.
Mr. Earle has not communicated with the police regarding the threats against his personal safety contained in the letters but the authorities are prosecuting a diligent investigation. Most of the letters, it is believed, were sent by Nazis.
Mr. Earle created something of a sensation here last week when he revealed that he had warned government officials throughout the Austrian provinces, where he had been on a motor tour, that Austria would forfeit America’s sympathy if the country adopted a program racial or religious persecution.
