Ernst Simon, a veteran researcher at the Weizmann Institute of Science and a close colleague of the late Dr. Chaim Weizmann died yesterday at his Rehovot home at the age of 70. Prof. Simon was best known for his pioneering studies on the mechanism of diabetes carried out at the Department of-Biodynamics Laboratories which he occupied until a few days before his death. Born in Germany, he worked at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Biochemistry in Berlin until Hitler’s rise to power when he came to Israel and joined the Daniel Sieff Institute, the forerunner of the Weizmann Institute. It was in the years following his arrival in Israel that he worked in cooperation with Dr. Weizmann.
