A recognized authority on international law voiced support here today of Israel’s determination to remain in occupation of the conquered Arab territory until a peace settlement is negotiated.

Dr. Julius Stone. Challis Professor of International Law at the University of Sydney. told a support-for-Israel gathering here that international law recognized the principle that, where there is no other requirement in a cease-fire, the belligerents stay where they are until a peace settlement is negotiated and belligerents are not required to return any occupied territory until peace is established.

In another reference to the Middle East situation, Prof. Stone said that assurances for free passage through international waterways must be an inseparable part of any peace settlement.
