A “CURSORY EXAMINATION” OF NAZI CAMPS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY BY GERMAN OF THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION WAS ORDERED TODAY BY ATTORNEY GENERAL HOMER CUMMINGS.

MR. CUMMINGS SAID HE HAD REQUESTED J. EDGAR HOOVER, F.B.I. DIRECTOR, TO MAKE THIS INVESTIGATION AND THAT IF THE FACTS WARRANT A MORE FORMAL INQUIRY WOULD BE STARTED.

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S ACTION WAS TAKEN AS A RESULT OF COMPLAINTS FROM PRIVATE CITIZENS, COLLECTED BY REPRESENTATIVE WILLIAM D. CITRON OF CONNECTICUT. THE LETTERS DENOUNCED THE NAZI MILITARY CAMPS AT ANDOVER, N. J., AND ELSEWHERE, AND CHARGED NAZI SYMPATHIZERS WERE TRANSPORTING FIREARMS ACROSS STATE LINES IN VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW.
