Fervently Orthodox parties threatened to bring down the Israeli government over proposed budget cuts they said would hurt their constituencies. United Torah Judaism Knesset member Ya’akov Litzman, who heads the Knesset Finance Committee, said he would not allow cuts in assistance to large families — a stipend that helps many families in the fervently Orthodox community — even if that would mean toppling the government.
