Fifty Soviet Jewish communities are baking their own matzohs this year, according to a leading Moscow Jew, following the authorities’ refusal to allow the import of matzohs from abroad. The Muscovite Jewish leader, Shalom Kleinman, gave this information to Chief Rabbi Shlomo Goren in a telephone conversation Wednesday.
