Film critics hailed the opening at the Cameo Theater here yesterday of “The Last Chapter,” a documentary film on the life and culture of Polish Jewry during the 1,000 years of its existence, which was culminated by the Nazi mass murders of the Second World War.
Sponsored by the American Jewish Congress, the film, produced and directed by Benjamin and Lawrence Rothman, and written by S.L. Schneiderman, depicts the history of Polish Jewry from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance through the 20th century and the Nazi holocaust. The material includes old pictures of statues, paintings and tapestries as well as films of hospitals, schools, synagogues, markets and homes along with scenes of people at work and play. Also vividly described are the contributions of Jewish scientists, teachers, artists and writers including Sholem Aleichem, I.L. Peretz and Marc Chagall.
